How to fix file permissions in cPanel
Open File Manager and browse to the file or folder you need to check. Right-click and choose Change Permissions. Standard website folders usually use 755, while most files use 644. Avoid setting files or folders to 777 unless support specifically asks, because it can create security risks. If WordPress cannot upload media or update plugins, permissions may be wrong or file ownership may need checking by support. Change permissions carefully and test the website afterwards. Correct permissions help keep your website secure while still allowing scripts to read and write the files they need.
